LAJF!!!

So, how do you celebrate LIFE??

We have two young women in our local church here in Malmö that are blessing our socks off right now.  Olivia and Nathalie are part of the Acts 29 program here in Sweden, a one year discipleship training year that exposes them to different cultures, lots of classroom theory, and then an internship in a local church.  Like I said, they have been blessing our socks off here at Wesleykyrkan.

They were given a task, and they literally ran with it!  And we celebrated LAJF ~ and LIFE ~ together with 20+ energetic kids for the Holy Week holiday that the kids had from school.
The invitation....

Opening the doors at 9.30 in the morning ~ and we had such great weather the whole week long!

If you build it....the tent!!!

Shoes off in the tent, please!

There is this movie, Field of Dreams, with this famous line “if you build it, they will come”.
If you put up a tent, it will be filled with kids.
And so we pitched a tent.  And filled it with kids!

The program for the week looked like this:
Monday:  All of Malmö bakes
Tuesday:  Talent
Wednesday:  Cooking camp
Thursday:  Fångarna på fortet (Swedish version of The Amazing Race)

We were responsible for the baking day on Monday.  So, not knowing how many kids to expect, we made two batches of cookie dough for the kids to work with….which meant, then, that we had enough cookies for Monday, for the Tuesday senior’s luncheon, and for every day for the rest of the week.  And the kids decorated cupcakes as well, which were quickly consumed for afternoon fika.

The cookies started out like this...

Then they needed to be pressed down...

The end result...cookies for everyone...cookies for the entire week!  Notice we did add some fruit :-)

Tuesday’s talent day included rotating thru the following 3 stations:
1. Dance
2. Sport
3. Crafts
One of the craft projects was to decorate Easter eggs....with soja whipped cream and food coloring.

Wednesday for cooking camp, they made tapas together, how cool is that!

Thursday we had our own version of an obstacle course race, dividing the kids into teams of 3 and then they had to go to 5 different stations.  Thankful that all the running up and down the 3 flights of stairs, and also down into the basement, resulted in 0 injuries (as in ZERO!!)
Thank you, Jesus!

All in all, we had great fun.  It’s always a lot of work.  But always a lot of fun.
The kids learned about communion and the Last Supper, Jesus praying in the garden, Jesus dying on the cross, and coming back to life.

LIFE!
LAJF!
Whichever way you celebrate, it was all about:
LEK (games),
Aktiviteter (activities)
Jesus (He’s the same in any language)
Fest (party)
