Bringing in your own donkey

Recently the world celebrated Palm Sunday.  We also celebrated Palm Sunday in Wesleykyrkan in Malmö.  Several of us in church that day were doing several different jobs (thankfully, not at the same time!). But when I walked into the kitchen, and found several of our younger kids helping prepare fika, I decided to joke a bit with them and tell them that there was a donkey coming to church today.  The look of surprise in their eyes….PRICELESS!!

So, fast forward about 20 minutes, and there stands Miss Barb at the back of the sanctuary, with a purple robe around her shoulders, carrying a donkey, barefooted, and wearing/carrying a crown….which happened to be the same crown we use when Santa Lucia walks into the room on December 13th every year.

My mother would have done the same thing if she had been the teacher for the day!!!

Barb, a.k.a. Jesus in this moment, was ushered into the room by another volunteer up front who was encouraging the congregation who was in attendance to cry out “Hosanna, David’s Son” ~ Hosianna Davids Son!!!  After trying it out a couple of times, the congregation ushered “Jesus”, the other volunteer and the kids with loud cries of Hosanna David's son, out of the worship space as we then gathered for our own worship and stories and Bibles lessons upstairs.

Whatever it takes to teach the stories of Jesus….barefoot and all!
